Visionary Tech designs assistive technology for people who are blind or have low vision, gives it to the people who need it at no cost, and champions better accessibility everywhere.
Visionary Tech was founded by Daniel Cooley, who has retinitis pigmentosa, an inherited condition that slowly narrows vision. Living with it every day made one thing clear: the tools that help people with low vision are often expensive, hard to get, and not designed with the people who use them.
So we are building them ourselves, with people who have low vision at the table from the first sketch, and giving them away.
We research, design, and test new assistive technology that improves functional vision and mobility, built with and tested by people who have low vision.
We produce the devices we develop and provide them at no cost to people with visual impairments, using clear and published eligibility rules.
We teach technology makers, businesses, schools, and the public how to build and choose accessible products, and we share our tools and research openly.
Visionary Tech is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, incorporated in 2023 and in good standing with the State of California.
We are applying to the IRS for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Until that is approved, gifts to Visionary Tech are not tax-deductible.
If you have low vision, we want to hear which everyday tasks are hardest and what you wish existed. You can also volunteer to test early designs.
We are looking for people with experience in low vision, engineering, finance, or fundraising.
